Day 1: Marrakech ⇢ Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Dades Gorges
Beginning with an early morning departure from your Marrakech lodging, your four-day desert excursion from Marrakech to Fes begins. You may witness authentic Berber communities as you go to Ait Ben Haddou across the High Atlas Mountains, take in the breathtaking vistas of the Atlas Mountains, and pause at a few panoramas for photos.
Reach the settlement of Ait Ben Haddou. You will go to this location to see the historic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which has been under UNESCO protection since 1987. The Kasbah served as the backdrop for several well-known films filmed in Morocco, including Gladiator and Prince of Persia. Our driver/guide will advise visiting a typical Berber shop before reaching the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. There, you can take some pictures while wearing a Berber attire absolutely free! Finally, if you’d like, you can make a purchase (scarfs are highly recommended for the desert). Because the shop’s primary objective is to promote Berber culture, nothing must be purchased. If you don’t want to visit the business, you can let your driver or guide know.
After arriving in the late afternoon, you will spend your first night in a magnificent riad in Merzouga.
Day 3: Merzouga⇢ Khamlia village ⇢ Nomad families ⇢ Mifis Mines
Around 10:00 AM, after a delicious breakfast at your Riad, you’ll begin your journey of the Merzouga desert. With the help of our 44 SUV, you can get to the Berber Nomads who live beyond the sand dunes and learn about their way of life and how they have managed to survive there. and numerous others on their vibrant culture. In addition, you’ll go to Mefis, a tiny hidden settlement in the desert, hear Gnawa music in Khamlia, and, if the Lake of Birds is full, go there as well.
You will enjoy camel trekking across the Erg Chebbi Dunes to get to your desert tent in the evening. When you get there, you can go sandboarding and take in the sunset. The Berbers will feed you food and play drums for you around the fire if you spend the night in their camp. Before heading to bed, take time to enjoy the stars.
Day 4: Merzouga ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Fes
Today, a dawn viewing from the closest dune is highly advised, so get up early. You’ll leave the camp after a sumptuous breakfast and arrive at Fes. You will pause en route to take in the expansive scenery of the Ziz Valley. In the Middle Atlas’s cedar forest, you might also come across several Barbary apes.
