Next, after passing via Meknes, we’ll go to Fes, where we’ll spend the night in a riad or hotel.
Day 2: Fes Sightseeing
Beginning the day by meandering through its alleyways and congested streets, we will explore the oldest Moroccan city. We’ll start our sightseeing at the entrance to the Royal Palace before moving on to the Jewish center, where in the sixteenth century the first Mellah was ever constructed in Morocco. We’ll make sure you visit all the places that are historically significant and culturally significant, including the renowned and oldest university in the area, Al Qaraouine.
The Tanneries, the Attarine Museum, and the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum will also be on our itinerary. During lunch, you’ll tour a variety of cooperatives before taking in a breathtaking overview of Fes’s Medina and spending the rest of the evening at your riad.
Day 3: Fes ⇢ Middle Atlas ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga
Driving to Azrou, where we’ll stop to view the cedar forest—home to the Berber apes—is the next stop on your journey. From there, our journey continues past Midelt, the Ziz valley, and a brief lunch and drink stop in Erfoud before passing through Rissani and arriving in Merzouga. Upon there, we’ll switch out our 44 for camels (optional) and tour Erg Chebbi under the guidance of a knowledgeable camel guide. We’ll travel for around 90 minutes to get to the campsite, where we’ll watch a stunning sunset over the sand dunes before having dinner cooked over a campfire. We’ll spend this night in the desert, in Berber tents.
Day 4: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Dades Gorges
Getting up early will allow us to see the dawn over the dunes before checking into a nearby motel to freshen ourselves. After breakfast, we’ll go to the tallest and narrowest gorge in Morocco, Todra, through Rissani and Tinghir. Following lunch in the gorge, we’ll drive through the Dades Valley and take in the local landmark known as “Monkey Toes” as we do so. We’ll spend the night in Dades Valley and get a free meal and breakfast the following morning.
Day 5: Dades Gorges ⇢Ouarzazate⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ Marrakech
Driving to Ouarzazate, known as “the African Hollywood,” and Kalaat Mgouna is the next stop on our private tour. We can go to the local movie studio and Kasbah here (Fortress). The next stop will be Ait Ben Haddou, where we will explore the largest Kasbah in all of Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After crossing the High Atlas Mountains, we’ll continue on to Marrakesh, where we’ll spend the night in a classic riad in the old city.
Day 6: Marrakech ⇢Casablanca
We will tour Marrakesh, “the crimson city of Morocco,” after breakfast. The Majorelle Gardens, the Koutoubia Tower, the Saadian tombs, and the Bahia Palace are all included in your guided trip.
